Personalized Learning refers to learning in which high impact instruction and the learning environment are optimized for each student. Learning opportunities are meaningful and relevant, driven by interests, and often self-initiated in a flexible, innovative, and supportive classroom environment.
At the beginning of each school year, students work with teachers to reflect on their learning in an age appropriate way. This process is designed to help teachers get to know their students, and for students to reflect on who they are as learners. Students answer statements including “I am really interested in ___,” “I am really good at ___,” and “I would like to learn how to be or do___.” They also provide details on how they learn best, access information, and express what they know.
Throughout the year, students meet with teachers to review progress and share evidence of their learning during parent conferences. Monitoring student performance and interests helps teachers tailor and codesign learning and lessons with their students.
