Chosen from among 560 elementary and middle school teachers from Nobel Learning’s schools around the U.S., Hamilton was nominated by parents, the school’s principal, teachers and staff members to receive this national recognition. The award was formally presented at Nobel Learning’s national principal conference recently held in Las Vegas.

As Teacher of the Year, Hamilton was recognized for consistently raising the bar and challenging her students to acquire the skills needed to be successful in the future. This award also acknowledges Hamilton’s leadership skills as well as her mentoring commitment to new teachers and staff during her eight years with the school.

"Mary Jane’s passion and determination to make a difference in each student’s life, makes her an exemplary teacher and deserving of this award," said Michael Statham, Headmaster for The Honor Roll School. "Students under Mary Jane’s direction come away not only being better students, in every sense of the word, but also realizing many interpersonal skills that will help them to positively navigate through the challenges facing them as teenagers."

Nobel Learning Communities’ Teacher of the Year program recognizes teachers who stand out by demonstrating a strong commitment to inspire, motivate and educate students and staff alike. Along with the title Teacher of the Year, Hamilton received a bonus, an all-expense paid trip to the national conference in Las Vegas, and a round trip airline ticket to anywhere in the United States.

"I am thrilled to receive this honor. Teaching is like playing jazz music, it involves a certain amount of structure, yet there is freedom to improvise," says Mary Jane Hamilton. "At The Honor Roll School, we are constantly looking for new and creative ways to engage our students and teach them a new ‘tune’ each day."

Hamilton believes that a structured and nurturing environment, along with high and consistent expectations is crucial for student and teacher success. Hamilton makes this philosophy a reality in her middle school science and health classrooms as well as in her duties as coordinator of student services.

A resident of Sugar Land, Hamilton earned her bachelor’s degree from The University of Tennessee, and her teaching certification from Texas State University.
